do not want to spend a lot of money for just one night. any ideas on what i should wear?

Two ideas. There are places which hire out ballgowns, but they might be very expensive anyway. Or, you could try charity shops in a city centre or a posh area near where you live and you might be surprised at the stock they have . Some have great clothes only worn once.
There are lots of sales on at the moment. Depending on your budget you could look at sites like net-a-porter.com for something high-end, or for high street look in places like Mango, Monsoon or Zara. x
